This is the colored version to Mice at the Beach Original. For the background sky, I chose a cloudy setting sun since mice are nocturnal and wouldn't venture out in the bright, daylight hours. The sand is a mixture of my own creation in brown, orange and yellow colors. It was originally a light color lowered down to a darker shade to keep with the dusk atmosphere. The view of the water looks more like a tide pool than the actual edge of the ocean, or what would be more appropriate for smaller creatures to wade in.
The swimsuit color ideas came from photos of real suits in the Victorian era. Girls tend to wear blue the most, but red was also a popular color, and that is what I chose for Olivia. The suit for Basil was found as a popular style with white lines on the edges and tight around the arms and legs. The dark blue is actually the same shade of the cuff sleeves, waist tie, and collar on his smoking jacket. Portly men in the 19th century often wore striped suits to the beach; it was only fitting for Dawson to be decked out in the same style with a nice shade of lavender, or the same color of his trousers in the film. But on a sidenote, however--& this is mostly my belief formed due to personal experience--I wouldn't say that mice (well, not *all* mice, anyway) are nocturnal. I've seen a lot of mice in my lifetime, & except for maybe one or two, all the others I saw were awake during the daytime & slept in the night. As for rats, I haven't seen too many, but there were some that I saw that slept during the day, & others that stayed *awake* during the day, but...Arrrgh!!! Enough bloody rambling!
*takes a moment to de-hyperventilate, & then clears throat softly*
But at least, given the fact that they're "cartoon" animals, I'd think that perhaps they would presumably function along a time schedule that's more similar to ours & be on the beach during the daytime instead. Just my opinion, though.
And that's also why all the rodents in my GMD fan-stories are di-urnal, too, with the exception of maybe one or two. I dunno, I suppose I just like having anthro rodents being a little more...anthro, you know?
Again, however, this is all just my opinion.

GMD love is alive...& it lives in Winnie! XD
If there are no cats in America & the streets are paved with cheese, would they taste like Gouda or cheddar?

But, yeah, getting back to my coloring style, I do darker pictures because it hides my flaws, so I've done so little of daytime pictures. I'm embarrassed by my mistakes. Gads, even when the characters are indoors I dim the lights on them! And you would think since London is so gloomy and overcast nearly all the time, the first sight of the sun they'd want to come out and bask in it? I probably could practice a little more on daytime pictures.
Look! I rambled too! But, thank you for your comment and info! That was a fun one!

I am a little confused as to what is happening. Because of the shovel and pail, I would guess they came to the seaside for a little fun, but Olivia and Dawson seem annoyed at Basil. It must be something to do with the paper and pencil he has...maybe he is getting distracted from their purpose and doing research?

If you scroll down, you'll see a red one I sort of looked over for Olivia and the dark blue with white edges for Basil. The scene was mostly created due to my back and forth chat with a dA watcher over seeing Basil's bare legs. But, how to do it where he's still wearing clothes? I figured Olivia and Dawson dragged him out to the beach and he brought his work with him. I guess he wants to finish writing some notes before starting this supposed fun. Olivia is totally annoyed and will probably douse him any minute with her bucket sitting there. Now, that would be interesting to draw, Basil soaking wet and chasing after the child!

p.s. Thanks for the link! Here's one in return, in case you ever want to have reference pictures of Victorian non-bathing suit clothes!
