Olivia: Hey! Baaaasil! Basil: Just checking...one can never be too careful!
This is my first drawing of The Great Mouse Detective characters. I started last December with only Basil, then came Olivia and Dawson in April, 2007, and in early August, the background to Basil's flat. Talk about a long process, eh? The picture is entirely drawn with no computer-added lines. I only darkened the lines with a graphic art tool so that you can see it better.
No story was intended behind this when the original idea was of Basil only. With added characters and bg, it looks as though the gift belongs to Olivia and Basil had been duped before when receiving a similar package that made an unusual 'ticking' sound. That would explain him snatching it out of the child's hands and moving away to put an ear to it. It's only natural she would complain to his actions.
yay! I love your version of Dawson! So adorable! *hugs teh Basil and Olivia*

Aww, thank you! Dawson was the second toughest besides Basil. I was really nervous drawing him, didn't think he'd come out looking like his cute, Nigel Bruce-like self!
your welcome! ^^ *makes sure the other two arn't looking and gives Basil an extra hug*

I like this more than the coloured. I think you really capture their personalities in this. Sketches always seem better to me than the finale; it's the rawness.

Ah! That's the word I was looking for! Rawness! My friend has been posting both her colored and line art of her TMNT drawings and I was getting all excited over the originals. She wondered why and I said that they're like b&w photos where you see more in them that color usually takes away. Color cleans up a lot of the grittiness and shadows, makes it all neat n' pretty, so to speak. I couldn't think of the word, but yes, rawness is a good one to describe it. And thank you for the !!
