Olivia: Hey! Baaaasil!
Basil: Just checking...one can never be too careful!
This is my first drawing of The Great Mouse Detective characters. I started last December with only Basil, then came Olivia and Dawson in April, 2007, and in early August, the background to Basil's flat. Talk about a long process, eh? The picture is entirely drawn with no computer-added lines. I only darkened the lines with a graphic art tool so that you can see it better.
No story was intended behind this when the original idea was of Basil only. With added characters and bg, it looks as though the gift belongs to Olivia and Basil had been duped before when receiving a similar package that made an unusual 'ticking' sound. That would explain him snatching it out of the child's hands and moving away to put an ear to it. It's only natural she would complain to his actions.

This is actually pretty funny! What'd be hilarious if Basil heard a ticking noise coming from inside and it turned out to be a bomb delivered by Ratigan 
(I know he died at the end of the movie, but in one's imagination, anything could happen). That'd be great, wouldn't it? Obviously, I'm hoping that Basil throws it outside before it went off.
